The Clock Rant
Judyta Szacilowski
(Final Draft)
The thing that bugs me the most is that ticking clock we call time. I believe that the clock controls our life. We always depend greatly on the clock for appointments, school, special events, everything really…I hate how the clock makes our life go by faster and before we know it we’re old and struggling to walk! But at the same time, it makes time feel like its going by so slowly as we teenagers stare at the clock during class. I prefer life without a clock because we wouldn’t be as stressed out with making it to places on time. We should all lead a carefree life but with a clock that’s not possible. Why can’t we tell what time it is by the sun? Or the darkness of the sky? I feel the clock puts a lot of teenagers in trouble when they come home past “curfew”. The clock stresses even myself out when I’m out with friends and I know I have homework but won’t do it because it’s too “late” according to the clock. Without a clock I would follow my feelings, whether I’m tired or not. I will go ahead with my duties if my body tells me I am not tired and if I am tired I will simply sleep! We follow the clock for work too, if we don’t we will be late and then fired. I’d rather work in daylight and when the sun goes down that’s when we should stop working but no, the clock allows places to be open late night which forces us to work even longer. If the sun is down we all automatically know that the stores are closed. It would bring less confusion when we struggle to remember the stores hours since each stores have different closing time. This all comes down to the clock that controls our life and I dislike it because it brings stress, arguments from confusion and disappointment out of us.
